Summer Visitors: Melanie!

This summer (June, at least) is shaping up to be very busy with guests coming to visit me in D.C.!

Melanie flew to New York City to celebrate her sister's 30th birthday, then took a very delayed Amtrak train to D.C.. This was very exciting because I was not sure if Melanie would be able to visit me anytime soon. Thank goodness for graduation money!

I love this photo because it was early before I went to work at the White House. There was no one standing in front of the gates when we approached. As Melanie got her camera ready, she asked what that mob approaching from the opposite side of the street was. I told her to HURRY! NOW! PICTURES! NOW!

That mob was a group of school children, and they are vicious little tourists. Melanie was pushed out of the way as one of the chaperones arranged the children into a group shot, by height of course, smack dab in the middle of the White House. That's for optimal annoyance to other tourists!

Luckily, I got one nice shot. I think this would look nice tacked onto a bulletin board in a classroom. One of those "Where Has Ms. Graves Traveled?" features, perhaps?
